Dude Remy Hidden Symbols
When I was in school, I always wondered how the teacher would interpret what the author meant. Did they really know? Now that I am an “author”, hard to say out loud, I have added personal objects into my illustrations. If you are reading this, it’s because you are curious, so here are the facts! The following are shout-outs to the things that were important to my family, so they never forget. Every family has silly memories and pets that have passed away, this is a tribute to all those things!
Play along and find these hidden symbols in the Adventures of Dude Remy!
Turquoise Charlie was a gift, from my family, for my 40th birthday. It was a total surprise and when my husband opened the garage door, my 3 kids were sitting inside him holding up birthday signs.
When the family is walking into the football stadium, there is an extra blond girl wearing #13. That is Alexis, Spencer’s high school sweetheart, and now my daughter in law!
On the last page, there is a bright yellow bird, standing on a shovel. That is Tonto, our pet Sun Conure. He used to love Ritz bits crackers. He would open them, eat the peanut butter and toss the crackers to the dogs!
When Spencer is leaving for college, he is holding a box of books. Those were Harry Potter, his favorite.
When Paige leaves for college, her tote bag, at the airport, has a stuffed elephant poking out. That is Baxter, her brothers gave that to her when she was born. She still has him. He even has tiny underpants and a tuxedo!
When Paige is driving through town, the little apple on the awning is our favorite restaurant. To this day, we eat there all the time!
In the mom’s trunk, when Clay is leaving, are baseball hats and his catcher’s mitt. Clay always wore a baseball hat!
When Clay leaves for college he is in the driveway holding a framed photo. Those were our family dogs at that time. Tucker a Golden/Pyrenees mix and Thug and Lola, brother/sister pugs.
When Dude Remy pulls into the farm, there is a rooster on the fence. That’s my nickname for my first grandchild. As a result of reading tons of books to him, the book I talked about writing for years, came flowing out. I actually started writing on my way home from Portland, Maine after visiting him.
